PC Format - August 2002
This is the first time that we've run a category for best
IT distributor and Rectron have convincingly walked off
this award, beating their nearest opposition by a cool
47%.
In all honesty, it's really not difficult to see why Rectron have
become the public's choice when one
looks at them as a company. Pay attention because
here comes the history lesson.
Rectron Holdings was established in May 1995.
Within
one year they outgrew their premises in which they
started and this saw them move to a more spacious
warehouse in Woodmead during the course of 1996.
During that year they posted a turnover of over R75
million which isn't bad considering that they were a
fledgling company. By 1997 they had to move again,
and did so to Kyalami Business Park. That year, they
grew by an impressive 50% as a company. In 1998
Rectron listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.
'99 was a big year. They were beginning to corner the
South African market and they turned their attention
to globalization and proceeded to set up operations in
Australia and the UK.
As the new millennium ticked
over, Rectron yet again moved premises. This time,
however, they moved into their purpose built warehouse
and office complex in South Africa's
version of Silicon Valley, Midrand. By 2001, Rectron
had grown every year and this year was even more
special because Rectron had made its presence felt on
the global stage as they started signing up big international brands
as sole distributors. Rectron now boasts a huge array of world class
products from
leading manufacturers. Gigabyte, Viewsonic, Leadtek,
Intel, HP, Toshiba, Maxtor, AOpen, Handspring,
Logitech, Fujitsu, Canon, CNet, Transcend, TwinMos,
Jazz and Matrox (to name a few) all form part of
Rectron's notable arsenal.
What's more, Rectron
distribution branches are popping all over the show
both locally and internationally and the reason for
their success is a simple one. Mark Lu, CEO of
Rectron, thinks big and he is able to materialise his
vision. His next aim is to hit the billion Rand turn over
mark.
They should get there comfortably in the next
financial year, but Rectron's philosophy is go big or
you
go home, and Mark Lu's next milestone is to take
Rectron from a billion Rand to a billion Dollar
company, and believe me, these guys can do it.
Let's hear it for Rectron who are crowned PC Format
Reader Award IT Distributor for 2001/2002. |
